Huge changes to diagnostics and repair of vehicles often occur when the manufactures make major changes in a body design. Often changes to the body design accompany changes to the electrical system, introduction of new engines, and accessories are upgraded, or added. While this trend is often true, sometimes major changes occur within a given generation of a model.
This course will cover changes to the GM pickups that occurred during the 99 – 07 model.
The Malibu was a contender for Car of the Year. The Malibu, when compared to a Toyota Camry, bettered it in most meaningful tests. The only way the Malibu could rate this well is by GM’s commitment to making improvements. Some of these improvements began in 2004 when Chevrolet made major changes to the Malibu.
This course will cover operations and diagnosis of most of the systems found on a newer Malibu changes to the V-6 engine, Electric Power Steering, Electrical Power Management and GM LAN are among the list of things to be taught in this course. While the Malibu is a typical GM Car, some of what you learn for the Malibu will be a direct carry over to other GM cars while other changes are more model specific. As you may have attended and experienced the many new features mechanical / electronics that the new Cobalt classes delivered, the GM mid size car platform featuring the Malibu platform has also experienced many new mechanical and electronic changes that will effect the maintenance and servicing of this car line.
The Duramax 6600-equipped Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks are among the most popular diesel pickups in the U.S. and Canada. Its unique fuel injection system provides excellent driveability and fuel economy as well as low harmful exhaust emissions. Servicing and repairing these vehicles provide good profit opportunities for the independent repair garage. This diagnosis course will aid in efficiently repairing these trucks.
GM has increased their market share of the light truck diesel market since introduction, in the 2001 model year, of the Duramax 6600. The early Duramax 6600s are now off manufacturer’s warranty and there are aftermarket repair possibilities now available. This presentation will concentrate on the design and operation of this popular engine as well as a review of the GM 6.5 diesel that the Duramax 6600 replaced. Relevant Technical Service Bulletins and common problems will be highlighted.
